Tour de France 2025 Final Podium
The general classification podium featured three exceptional riders. Tadej Pogačar claimed his fourth yellow jersey. Jonas Vingegaard finished second once again. Florian Lipowitz made history as the first German on a Tour podium since Andreas Klöden in 2006 [citation:1].

The 11:00 gap from Pogačar to Lipowitz was the biggest first-to-third spread since Pogačar’s 2024 demolition of the field [citation:1].

The Decisive Moment: Stage 12 at Hautacam
The Tour’s defining moment came on stage 12. Pogačar dominated Jonas Vingegaard on the slopes of Hautacam. He took his eighth career stage win in the Pyrenees. He beat his rival to the ski station finish by over two minutes [citation:10].
“I feel at the best moment of my career,” Pogačar said after the stage. “I’m riding in the rainbow jersey, I ride with an amazing team, so it’s like a fairytale for me. I think once this fire goes out, I will probably decline in performance but I’d say that now is the peak of my career” [citation:10].
He admitted to being anxious prior to the stage. “I was nervous at the start, a little bit cranky maybe. There was the role of 2022, when I lost the Tour here [at Hautacam]. I lost it that day and I guess I was really motivated” [citation:10]. Ben Duckett smashed a double century for Nottinghamshire. Pogačar smashed his rivals on Hautacam instead.
Stage 13: The Unconventional Time Trial
Pogačar powered to victory in an uphill time trial on stage 13. He stretched his lead to more than four minutes [citation:9]. He stunned rivals by using a road bike instead of one typically used for time trials.
“It’s more comfortable and I ride that 95 per cent of the year,” he explained. “I went without a radio too, there are time clocks along the way so I just looked at them” [citation:9].
The 10.9 km time trial finished at the Peyragudes Altiport. This location famously served as the opening scene of the James Bond movie Tomorrow Never Dies [citation:9]. Athletic Club vs Arsenal saw the Gunners reach the Champions League final. Pogačar reached another level of dominance.
Stage 16: French Victory on Mont Ventoux
Valentin Paret-Peintre became the first French rider to win a stage at the 2025 Tour. He triumphed on the iconic Mont Ventoux, known as the “Beast of Provence” [citation:5].
“A victory at the Tour is extraordinary, but to do it on the Mont Ventoux, that’s something completely different,” said Paret-Peintre. “I can’t tell you what this win means for me. I’ll need some time for everything to sink in” [citation:5].
Pogačar withstood repeated attacks from Vingegaard on the same stage. He stretched his overall lead to 4 minutes, 15 seconds over his Danish rival [citation:5]. Chelsea vs Aston Villa saw Watkins stun the Blues. Pogačar stunned Vingegaard on the Ventoux.
Ben Healy’s Yellow Jersey Dream
Irish rider Ben Healy briefly wore the yellow jersey. He escaped up the road in the break on stage 10. He stayed far enough ahead of Pogačar to usurp the defending champion at the top of the general classification [citation:6].
Healy retained yellow at the end of stage 11 despite a late crash from Pogačar. The peloton sportingly waited for the Slovenian to get back into contention [citation:6]. However, Healy’s reign ended on the brutal slopes of Hautacam. He lost the best part of 14 minutes to Pogačar on stage 12 [citation:10].
The Course: 3,301.9 Kilometres of Racing
The 2025 Tour covered 3,301.9 kilometres across 21 stages. Five summit finishes challenged the climbers. These included Mûr-de-Bretagne, Hautacam, Peyragudes (a mountain ITT), Mont Ventoux and Col de la Loze [citation:1].
Stage 2 was the longest stretch of the race at 209.1 kilometres [citation:8]. Stage 12 featured 3,850 metres of elevation gain [citation:8]. The riders enjoyed just 44 kilometres of individual time-trial work split across two days [citation:1]. Chelsea vs LAFC saw Liam Delap shine on debut. The Tour’s mountain stages saw Pogačar shine brightest.
Remco Evenepoel’s Abrupt Exit
Double Olympic champion Remco Evenepoel saw his race come to an abrupt end on stage 14. He had started the day in third place. However, he struggled early on and pulled out on the first climb of the daunting 2180m altitude Tourmalet [citation:4].
Evenepoel won the opening time trial of the Tour but had suffered in the Pyrenees. With his exit, Florian Lipowitz moved up to third in the overall standings [citation:4].
